Is John Kramer back in the Spierig Brothers' Saw: Legacy?

Tobin Bell

Back in October, we shared some behind-the-scenes images from the filming of SAW: LEGACY, the upcoming eighth installment in the SAW franchise, that showed the grave of John Kramer, a.k.a. Jigsaw, the twisted trapmaker at the center of the series. Kramer died in SAW III, but his work has lived on through four, soon to be five sequels. In SAW: LEGACY, it looks like Kramer's body is exhumed for some reason, and the folks over at Bloody-Disgusting got their hands on a plot synopsis that appears to explain why.

According to their source, SAW: LEGACY begins with

bodies turning up around the city, each having met a uniquely gruesome demise. As the investigation proceeds, evidence points to one man: John Kramer. But how can this be? The man known as Jigsaw has been dead for over a decade. Or has an apprentice picked up the mantle of Jigsaw, perhaps even someone inside the investigation?

The answer to the question of who's committing these murders would seem obvious, since Jigsaw had a bunch of apprentices in the series. However, the actors who played two of them - Costas Mandylor and Cary Elwes - are not back for LEGACY.

Tobin Bell, who played Jigsaw, is back in LEGACY, despite having aged eleven years since his character died. It's not clear just what Bell will be doing in the film.

Previously announced cast members include Laura Vandervoort, Hannah Anderson, and Mandela Van Peebles. They and Bell are joined in the cast by Brittany Allen, Callum Keith Rennie, Matt Passmore, Josiah Black, Shaquan Lewis, Michael Bolsvert, and James Gomez.

Directed by Peter and Michael Spierig (UNDEAD, DAYBREAKERS, PREDESTINATION) from a screenplay by Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger (SORORITY ROW, PIRANHA 3D), SAW: LEGACY is scheduled to be released on October 27, 2017.
