It Comes at Night trailer finds Manson as quotable as Aristotle

It Comes at Night Trey Edward Shults Kelvin Harrison Jr. Joel Edgerton

A lot of us are intrigued by the upcoming horror release IT COMES AT NIGHT, which star Joel Edgerton hopes will help improve the genre's reputation and which our own Chris Bumbray gave an 8/10 rating in his review. Although we have an official synopsis, I still feel like I know very little about the film, because the marketing is keeping things so mysterious, focusing on atmosphere over story.

That approach is evident in the latest trailer, which can be seen below. I've sat through that thing a couple times now and I still couldn't tell you what's going on in the footage from the movie because I'm too distracted by the quotes featured in it. This trailer is a showcase for quotes more than it is for the movie itself, and these aren't review quotes talking about how good the movie is or anything. These are things that were said by the likes of ancient philosopher Aristotle, highly respected writers Sylvia Plath and T.S. Eliot, and of course, since this is a horror movie, Charles Manson.

IT COMES AT NIGHT remains a mystery.

The synopsis:

A man learns that the evil stalking his family home may be only a prelude to horrors that come from within.

Secure within a desolate home as an unnatural threat terrorizes the world, the tenuous domestic order he has established with his wife and son is put to the ultimate test with the arrival of a desperate young family seeking refuge.

Despite the best intentions of both families, paranoia and mistrust boil over as the horrors outside creep ever-closer, awakening something hidden and monstrous within him as he learns that the protection of his family comes at the cost of his soul.

Written and directed by Trey Edward Shults, the film stars Edgerton, Carmen Ejogo, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Christopher Abbott, and Riley Keough.

IT COMES AT NIGHT will be released in theatres on June 9th.
