Jack the Ripper to return in FX’s From Hell series

It’s a good time to be a horror fan right now with the genre hitting every corner of the TV world. And not only does it seem like every network is jumping into the horror business, but their shows are actually good. Who would have thought!? Deadline is reporting that FX is developing a new series, “From Hell”, a drama based on the graphic novel by Alan Moore and Eddie Campbell, which was adapted into the 2001 20th Century Fox feature starring Johnny Depp and Robbie Coltrane.

Don Murphy, who produced the film, is executive producing. David Arata (CHILDREN OF MEN) will write the adaptation. The Hughes brothers, who directed the movie, are not involved.

From Hell tells the tale of Jack the Ripper with the killer himself as the main character. Detailing the events leading up to the Whitechapel killings and the cover-up that followed, the 572-page graphic novel is a meditation on the mind of a madman whose savagery and violence gave birth to the 20th century.

I’m 100% unfamiliar with the graphic novel, but apparently it was always envisioned by Murphy to be a TV series, so it will be interesting to see how closely this one sticks to the pages. The story of Jack the Ripper will always be fascinating, whether it's told within the format of a feature film, graphic novel or even a TV show, so I’m definitely going to be looking forward to this one.
