Jake Busey: Shane Black’s film focuses on the goal of The Predator

Predator 2

I never thought the heavily armed creatures of the PREDATOR franchise came to our planet for any other reason than humans make for good hunting, but it sounds like Shane Black might have dug deeper into their reasoning with his "inventive sequel" THE PREDATOR.

In a cool bit of casting, Jake Busey was hired to appear in THE PREDATOR as the son of the character his father Gary Busey played in PREDATOR 2. While speaking with Pop Culture, the younger Busey had this to say about the new film:

This one definitely falls in line with the original franchise in that it does focus on the technology that the Predators have. It focuses on what the goal of the Predators is, and what their modus operandi, and why they come to the planet, and that type of thing. It's definitely in line with the original franchise."

Of course, the "why they come to the planet" explanation could simply be that "humans make for good hunting"… We'll have to wait and see, as there is quite a lot of secrecy surrounding the project. Our biggest source of information to date has been Busey's co-star Thomas Jane, who revealed that several of the characters are war veterans with PTSD who are put on a bus with

a guy they’ve actually marked to kill because he’s seen a UFO, he’s seen the Predator ships come down, so they lock him up and throw him in with us lunatics. They’re going to take that bus, drive it down to a ditch and shoot us all just to get rid of this one guy. But, of course, we take the bus over and we’re all like ‘F*ck that man, let’s go kill these f*cking Predators ourselves’ and we’re just crazy enough to believe that this guy really did see a UFO and there’s these aliens out there."

Directed by Shane Black from a screenplay he wrote with his THE MONSTER SQUAD collaborator Fred Dekker, THE PREDATOR stars Boyd Holbrook, Yvonne Strahovski, Jacob Tremblay, Olivia Munn, Sterling K. Brown, Trevante Rhodes, Alfie Allen, Keegan-Michael Key, Augusto Aguilera, and Edward James Olmos, in addition to Busey and Jane.

The new film is scheduled to reach theatres on August 3rd, 2018.
