James Wan-produced Lights Out gets a July 2016 release

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

When director David Sandberg's 3 minute short LIGHTS OUT hit the internet last year, it quickly became a viral hit, gaining so much attention that New Line Cinema has teamed with Sandberg and James Wan's production company Atomic Monster for a feature length version of the concept.

Starring Gabriel Bateman and Teresa Palmer (pictured below), the film will tell the story of

a young boy and his estranged sister, who are confronted by an evil entity that only appears when the lights are out.

LIGHTS OUT is currently in post-production, and New Line is obviously happy with what Sandberg and Wan have delivered, as a release date shuffle has landed the movie a prime release date: July 22, 2016.

New Line and Wan had huge success when Wan's film THE CONJURING was released on July 19, 2013, and it looks like they think they might be able to replicate at least some of that success with LIGHTS OUT.
