Jason Reitman directs new Ghostbusters movie!

Last Updated on July 21, 2021

I know it's late and most of you will not even be reading this until morning, but I'm going to go ahead and write it up all the same. Today we have word that original GHOSTBUSTERS director Ivan Reitman's son Jason Reitman (JUNO, UP IN THE AIR) is in talks to helm a "surprise" new entry in the classic horror-comedy series. Variety reports that Reitman will be directing from a screenplay he co-wrote along with Gil Kenan (MONSTER HOUSE, POLTERGEIST remake) and the current plan is for this mysterious new film to shoot THIS summer.

On top of all that, evidently, this film will be a continuation of GHOSTBUSTERS 2 and will not be connected to the 2016 reboot starring Kristen Wiig and Mellisa McCarthy. No word on whether or not the original cast members will be back, as story details are under wraps. That said, supposedly Reitman has begun testing teenagers for four mystery roles… Gee, I wonder. Evidently, the film is all set to be unleashed into theaters via Sony in summer 2020. I guess we'll be hearing more soon!

Meanwhile, the original film followed this synopsis:

After the members of a team of scientists (Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray) lose their cushy positions at a university in New York City, they decide to become "ghostbusters" to wage a high-tech battle with the supernatural for money. They stumble upon a gateway to another dimension, a doorway that will release evil upon the city. The Ghostbusters must now save New York from complete destruction.

The original GHOSTBUSTERS movie was directed by Ivan Reitman from a screenplay written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis. Reitman also produced the movie which starred Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Harold Ramis, and Rick Moranis. Buy it on Blu-ray RIGHT HERE.
