John Krasinski may direct A Quiet Place 2 after all

Co-writer/director John Krasinski's hit horror-thriller A QUIET PLACE (co-starring his wife Emily Blunt) was unanimously one of the very best films of 2018. Horror or otherwise. In fact, here at AITH, the movie not only made our 10 Best Films of 2018 list (read that HERE) but the movie also landed a top spot on our Five Best Scenes of 2018 countdown (which you can read right over HERE). Needless to say, the film is a new classic for sure.

We already know A QUIET PLACE 2 is in the works and we know that Krasinski is already penning the script. But today we have word via The Playlist that Krasinski is up for returning to the sequel as a director as well. MAYBE. He recently sat down and chatted about this and that along with his wife/co-star Blunt and had this to say, specifically:

Well, I’m currently writing the script, and it was one of those things where I didn’t think I would write or participate in the sequel, to be honest. I was so proud of the first one, and obviously, we didn’t make it a with the intention that there would be a sequel. That said, I’m a realist, and I try to see things from everybody’s point of view, and I certainly understand why a studio would want to make a second one after the movie’s success. But I didn’t want any part of it because if it wasn’t going to be organic—a sort of next step for the world— I didn’t want to be a part of it. I said, “just go make another one [without me].”

So, while they were looking at filmmakers and writers, they called and asked if I had any ideas for guidance.  I said, “well, I have this little small idea,” and then my producer said, “well, can you think about it for the next few weeks while we’re meeting people. Then those few weeks went by and he brilliantly Jedi mind tricked me into, like, “well, why don’t you just write it and then while you write it, and we’ll give it to a filmmaker.” So, here I am now writing it and we’ll see if I ended up directing it. But it’s an entertaining idea because I think for me, the cool part about this is, that it doesn’t feel like a sequel.

"We’ll see if I end up directing it," he says. Hurm... Personally, I would love to see Krasinski return to the director's chair for the highly-anticipated sequel. After all, the man clearly showed with the original film that he more than has the chops to pull of a compelling thriller in this world and within our beloved genre. And it's like the old saying goes: If it ain't broke, don't fix it. What do YOU think? Let us know below!

The film is based on a screenplay written by Krasinski along with Bryan Woods and Scott Beck and is:

A taut and original thriller that follows a family who must navigate their lives in silence to avoid mysterious creatures that hunt by sound. Knowing that even the slightest whisper or footstep can bring death, Evelyn (Emily Blunt) and Lee (John Krasinski) are determined to find a way to protect their children at all costs while they desperately search for a way to fight back. The film earned a 95% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes and generated an extraordinary $175M+ at the domestic box office.

And for those of you that like to watch your movies instead of reading them, no worries as the flick is now available on Digital, 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD from Paramount Home Media Distribution. You can pick up a copy of the movie on Blu-ray HERE.
