Journey 2 director Brad Peyton sells Invasion, a Cloverfield like supernatural thriller

I'm not sure the director of such hallowed gems as JOURNEY 2: THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND and CATS & DOGS: THE REVENGE OF KITTY GALORE inspires much of...well, anything...but here we go.

Variety is reporting the man behind such kiddy fare, Brad Peyton (above), has just sold a pitch to Reel FX called INVASION. Rest assured, this will mark Peyton's first real foray into adult themed material, and is being described as "CLOVERFIELD-esque." Peyton will produce along with Andrew Adamson of Strange Weather Films.

With feature first-timer J. Daniel Shaffer penning the script:

INVASION revolves around a group of unarmed and unprepared students from Philadelphia that find out they'll have to become soldiers to survive an attack from a supernatural force.

Sounds more like RED DAWN meets CLOVERFIELD, which, if accurate, could be all kinds of cool. My guess it'll skew younger, since it revolves around students, and end up being PG-13. Not terrible for this genre, but I think we'd all like to see Peyton show more teeth than f*ckin' KITTY GALORE. Am I wrong?

Extra Tidbit: Vanessa Hudgens (above) lent her voice in JOURNEY 2.
