J.T. Petty’s horror-comedy Hellbenders captured by Lionsgate

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

J.T. Petty’s awesome-looking horror-comedy HELLBENDERS, about a randy group of exorcists, has been acquired by Lionsgate. The studio plans a North American theatrical release; the release date announcement is expected to come shortly.

Flick stars Clancy Brown, Clifton Collins Jr. Dan Fogler, Robyn Rikoon and Andre Royo

We’ve got a full synopsis to throw your way, so hunker down and get nasty with it:

HELLBENDERS follows a debauched band of exorcists as they face off against a powerful demon intent on destroying the earth. The Hellbound Saints of Brooklyn Parish are the folks you call on when the church-sanctioned exorcist fails to deliver you from evil. Their leader, Angus (Brown) is a sinner of the highest order, and he expects nothing less of his followers. According to Angus, the more sins committed, the better equipped his crew will be to face evil on its own horrible terms. His loyal apprentice keeps a detailed log of every transgression in order to ensure everyone is prepared for the infernal fight ahead. When the Hellbound Saints encounter a diabolical force that threatens to herald the apocalypse and learn that a meddling church bureaucrat is intent on shutting them down, they vow to violate God’s law with such vigor that they will be able to escort their wicked adversary straight to the gates of hell.

How awesome is that?!

The film was shot in digital 3D, and we’ll expect it to be released that way. Hopefully that date comes sooner rather than later.
