Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom featurette promises more dinosaurs than ever

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom J.A. Bayona

One upcoming release I'm going to be sure to see on the big screen is the JURASSIC PARK / JURASSIC WORLD follow-up JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM, which is set to reach theatres in just over a month. While I have been underwhelmed by some of the marketing materials, the fact that this doesn't seem to just be another "people running from dinosaurs on an island" installment in the series – along with the fact that it was directed by THE ORPHANAGE's J.A. Bayona – has me looking forward to seeing what FALLEN KINGDOM really does have to offer.

Further doing the job of selling me on this sequel is the newly released featurette, embedded below, which focuses on the dinosaurs of the film and the special effects used to bring them to life. In this featurette, we're promised not only that FALLEN KINGDOM will have more dinosaurs in it than any of the previous JURASSIC movies, it's said there's going to be more dinosaurs in this one than all of the previous films combined. Plus, these dinosaurs are "flipping out and killing people", and one in particular is described as a "psychopathic, murderous beast".

Okay, I'm ready to see this now.

Written by JURASSIC WORLD's Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly, the new film stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Daniella Pineda, Toby Jones, Rafe Spall, Justice Smith, Ted Levine, Geraldine Chaplin, Brooke Norbury, B.D. Wong, and Jeff Goldblum. The synopsis:

It’s been three years since theme park and luxury resort Jurassic World was destroyed by dinosaurs out of containment.  Isla Nublar now sits abandoned by humans while the surviving dinosaurs fend for themselves in the jungles.

When the island’s dormant volcano begins roaring to life, Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) mount a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event.  Owen is driven to find Blue, his lead raptor who’s still missing in the wild, and Claire has grown a respect for these creatures she now makes her mission. Arriving on the unstable island as lava begins raining down, their expedition uncovers a conspiracy that could return our entire planet to a perilous order not seen since prehistoric times.

With all of the wonder, adventure and thrills synonymous with one of the most popular and successful series in cinema history, this all-new motion-picture event sees the return of favorite characters and dinosaurs—along with new breeds more awe-inspiring and terrifying than ever before.  Welcome to Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM arrives in theatres on June 22nd.
