Lionsgate acquires Danielle Vega’s The Merciless; Marlene King to adapt

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Look out! Another 'good girls gone evil' tale is coming our way. Only this time it's a horrific tale based on true life events.

Lionsgate has acquired the feature film rights to THE MERCILESS with “Pretty Little Liars” creator Marlene King on board to write and direct, according to Variety.

Based on the Danielle Vega horror novel inspired by real events and set for publication on June 12, 2014, the story follows…

…the new girl at a small-town high school who is taken in by the popular clique, only to have them compel her into joining them in a dangerous exorcism of a punky, rebellious classmate.

Alloy Entertainment packaged and will produce the film, with Alloy president Les Morgenstein and Alloy Features VP Elysa Dutton serving as producers.

According to the publisher of the novel, "Danielle Vega delivers blood-curdling suspense and terror on every page. By the shockingly twisted end, readers will be faced with the most haunting question of all: Is there evil in all of us?".

Hopefully that blood-curdling suspense and horror translate well to the big-screen.
