Lionsgate TV developing a Salem-based series for HBO

It must be the season of the witch.

With the ratings success of "American Horror Story: Coven" it's no surprise that witches are on fire right now (bad pun, I know) and we've begun to see a resurgence of witch-themed films and television projects. A few months back we shared the news that WGN America had greenlighted its first original series titled "Salem", based around the infamous Salem Witch Trials, and now THR is reporting that Lionsgate TV and HBO are looking to cast a spell of their own with another Salem-based series.

Jenji Kohan, who created Showtime's "Weeds" and the Netflix original series "Orange is the New Black", is developing the provocative period drama for the premium cable network which explores...

...the circumstances surrounding one of the most compelling chapters in American history, when intolerance and repression set neighbor against neighbor and led a town to mass hysteria.

Kohan will pen the script with Bruce Miller ("Alphas", "Eureka") and Tracy Miller. Kohan and Bruce Miller will also executive produce, while Tracy Miller will receive a supervising producer credit. The drama hails from Lionsgate TV, where Kohan is under an overall deal.

Look for more on this new series soon.
