So the cast for Atom Egoyan’s West Memphis Three flick THE DEVIL’S KNOT is shaping up rather nicely, no? We’ve been bringing you casting update after casting update regarding this shite and here I am today with yet another name joining the film!

According to Variety the latest name to join the ‘true story’ feature is “Lost” alumni Kevin Durand. Now chances are you don’t recognize Durand by name but if you peek on over to the right you can get a look at the big bastard. Ringing any bells now? That’s what I thought. Durand will play John Mark Byers, the father of one of the murdered children in the West Memphis Three case. The real-life father loved talking to the press and was initially a person of interest in the murders since his story changed from his initial police statement.

The film is based on journalist Mara Leveritt’s book and follows follows private detective Ron Lax, who took on the West Memphis Three case pro bono. He found DNA evidence linking Terry Hobbs, the stepfather of one of the three murdered boys, to material that was used to bind one of the victims — evidence that helped convince a judge to release James Baldwin, Jessie Misskelley Jr. and Damien Echols last year.

Along with Durand that impressive cast I was talking about also includes Reese Witherspoon, Colin Firth, Bruce Greenwood, Michael Gladis, Seth Meriwether, Matt Letscher, Mireille Enos, Alessandro Nivola, Kristopher Higgins and James Hamrick. No telling when things will get rolling on THE DEVIL’S KNOT but my guess is it’ll be sooner rather than later.
