We've been keeping a close eye on FX's upcoming pilot adaptation of Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan's vampiric tale "The Strain", sharing with you over the past few weeks the casting announcements of Corey Stoll, Kevin Durand, Mia Maestro, Jonathan Hyde and Richard Sammel, and today we have another bit of casting news to throw your way regarding this highly anticipated pilot.

Deadline is reporting that "Bless Me" actor Miguel Gomez has joined the cast of "The Strain", set to play Augustin “Gus” Elizalde, a badass gangbanger whose one redeeming trait is his love for his mother. Fresh out of juvenile hall after serving 18 months for manslaughter, he becomes one of humanity’s most effective warriors in the struggle against the vampires.

As for the pilot itself, it is being eyed for a potential 13-episode series pickup and concerns…

THE STRAIN is a high-concept thriller that tells the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Stoll), the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers wage war for the fate of humanity itself.

Carlton Cuse of BATES MOTEL is acting as showrunner on the pilot which will be directed by Guillermo del Toro himself from a script he co-wrote with Chuck Hogan.
