Natalie Brown to battle Guillermo del Toro’s The Strain

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

The cast for Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan's FX series "The Strain" continues to grow as word has come in that "Being Human" star Natalie Brown (below) has just joined the cast. We've already seen some fantastic names attached to the much anticipated vampire series like Sean Astin, John Hurt, Corey Stoll, Mia Maestro, and Kevin Durand.

The newly added Brown will play Eph’s ex-wife, Kelly Goodweather, who fails to heed her husband’s warning about the contagion spreading in Manhattan. She will actually be replacing Lauren Lee Smith, who was originally cast to play the part. While Brown's character, as the ex-wife, may seem unimportant on the surface, it is actually a very key element to the novels and becomes quite an important piece to the puzzle of the story. So far "The Strain" is shaping up very nicely and with del Toro so heavily involved in the project as well as helming the pilot, I'd say that this is one TV series you will want to be keeping a close eye on — we sure as hell are!

"The Strain" is a high-concept thriller that tells the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Stoll), the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers wage war for the fate of humanity itself.

Carlton Cuse ("Lost," "Bates Motel"), who helped develop the adaptation, executive produces alongside del Toro and will serve as showrunner, overseeing the potential series with del Toro. Hogan and del Toro’s longtime manager/producing partner Gary Ungar also serve as exec producers of the project, produced by FX Prods. Richard Sammel, Jack Kesy, Jonathan Hyde, Miguel Gomez, and Robert Maillet will also star.
