Netflix announces January premiere date for The Punisher season 2

The Punisher Jon Bernthal

Although Netflix has been promoting the upcoming second season of their Marvel Comics-inspired series The Punisher (for example, we just shared a teaser trailer for it yesterday), they've been holding back on announcing the premiere date… Until today, when they revealed that the premiere date is just two weeks away.

All episodes of The Punisher season 2 will be available for viewing on the streaming service as of January 18th.

Starring Jon Bernthal as the title character, the new season of The Punisher has the following synopsis:

Former marine-turned-vigilante Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) has been living a quiet life on the road until he suddenly becomes embroiled in the attempted murder of a young girl (Giorgia Whigham). As he is drawn into the mystery surrounding her and those in pursuit of the information she holds, Castle attracts a new target on his back as new and old enemies force him to confront whether he should accept his destiny and embrace a life as The Punisher.

One "old enemy" Frank/The Punisher will be facing off with is Billy Russo (Ben Barnes), a villain known as Jigsaw in the comic book source material.

Netflix has been on a cancelling spree with their Marvel-based shows lately; Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and Daredevil have all been cut down. The Punisher is sure to follow them into cancellation, but at least we get to see a second season before it goes away.

A new trailer for the season can be seen below:
