Netflix officially announces Stranger Things season 3

Seventeen of the most fun hours I've had in the last two years were the hours I spent watching the eight episode first season of the Netflix series Stranger Things and the nine episode second season, so even though Stranger Things 2 has only been streaming for just over a month, I've already been eagerly anticipating news on the third season... Sure, Netflix hadn't officially announced that one was going to be happening, but it was a given that it would since the show is so popular.

Today, the Netflix Twitter account posted a poll asking, "Should we make another season of Stranger Things?"

They only let that question hang for two minutes before replying with confirmation that they are going to be making another season: "FOR THE LOVE OF STEVE, DUH! So hold tight baby darts — season 3 is officially happening."

The rejoicing that fans have been expecting to do can now commence.

Established series stars Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Millie Bobby Brown, Caleb McLaughlin, Gaten Matarazzo, Cara Buono, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Dacre Montgomery, and Sadie Sink are all expected to return as the creatures of the Upside Down dimension continue to wreak horrific havoc in the small town of Hawkins, Indiana.

A Netflix production, Stranger Things is executive produced by series creators The Duffer Brothers, as well as Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen, and Iain Patterson.

The Duffers have implied that the monstrous Mind Flayer will be returning in the new season, telling the Hollywood Reporter that

...this thing [is still out there]. They've shut the door on the Mind Flayer, but not only is it still there in the Upside Down, it's very much aware of the kids, and particularly Eleven. It had not encountered her and her powers until that final episode. Now, it knows that she's out there."

There's no word on when the new season of Stranger Things might reach the streaming service, but there were fifteen months between the first two seasons so we might be looking at an early 2019 debut.
