Netflix orders 2 seasons of dark Sabrina the Teenage Witch reboot

Sabrina the Teenage Witch Melissa Joan Hart

Back in September, we heard that The CW was developing a reboot of Sabrina the Teenage Witch that was based on Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa's comic book series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, a more dark and horrific take on the concept than the Melissa Joan Hart TV series that ran on ABC and The WB from 1996 to 2003.

Tonally in the vein of ROSEMARY'S BABY and THE EXORCIST, this series would

see Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature as a half-witch, half-mortal  while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family, and the daylight world humans inhabit.

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina TV adaptation is now moving forward, not at The CW but at Netflix, with the streaming service having ordered two seasons – a total of twenty episodes – into production.

Aguirre-Sacasa also created the CW series Riverdale, which is "a subversive take" on Archie Comics characters. He will be writing Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and executive producing the show alongside Riverdale executive producers Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Jon Goldwater. Lee Toland Krieger, who has directed multiple episodes of Riverdale, will also be directing Sabrina and serving as an executive producer.

I didn't watch the previous Sabrina the Teenage Witch show, nor have I read any of the comics, but they certainly have my attention with this one.
