Gareth Edwards has GODZILLA stomping into theaters next month, but that isn't the only film with an oversized beastie he has coming our way. Edwards is executive producer on MONSTERS: DARK CONTINENT, the sequel to his 2010 breakout indie MONSTERS, and today we have some new images from the Tom Green-directed follow-up.

Protagonist Pictures will be taking MONSTERS: DARK CONTINENT to Cannes next month and now we've gotten ourselves a look at the upcoming sequel with some new images that give us our first looks at some of the titular beasties. You can check 'em out, as well as the first teaser for the flick, below.

Seven years on from the events of Monsters, and the ‘Infected Zones’ have spread worldwide. Humans have been knocked off the top of the food chain, with disparate communities struggling for survival. American soldiers are being sent abroad to protect US interests from the Monsters, but the war is far from being won.

Noah, a haunted soldier with several tours under his belt, is sent on a mission: an American soldier has gone rogue deep in the Infected Zone, and Noah must reach him and take him out. But when Noah’s unit and transport are destroyed, he finds himself with only a young and inexperienced cadet for company – the brother of the man Noah has been sent to kill.

Edwards executive produced DARK CONTINENT, which was directed by Tom Green ("Misfits", Blackout") and written by Jay Basu. The film stars Joe Dempsie, Johnny Harris, Sofia Boutella and Sam Keeley.
