New trailer for Annabelle director’s follow-up WISH UPON starring Joey King

Be careful what you WISH UPON…

Ah, the old "some poor shlub gets a set of wishes and everything is all hunky-dory until the wishes begin to have unforseen consquences" subgenre. Gotta love it. From WISHMASTER to the classic tale of THE MONKEY'S PAW, the tale as old as time hasn't lost its apeal. Evidently.

If horror has taught us anything it's that when some old crone, or shirtless dude from inside a lamp, or whatever, offers to grant you such and such many wishes, the best course of action is always to bid the crone (or lamp dude) a good day and run back to reality.

But who are we kidding. I don't care if it was a shirtless old crone emerging from an old malt liquor bottle, if she's offering me wishes, I'm taking them. Consequences be damned. I've got a boat that flies now.

Anyhow, if the "wishes gone wrong" subgenre appeals to you as much as it does to me, check out the new trailer for WISH UPON, the upcoming horror movie from Annabelle director John R. Leonetti (who was the cinematographer for INSIDIOUS and THE CONJURING). It sure to be some summer horror delight.

Here's the WISH UPON synopsis:

Twelve years after discovering her mother’s suicide, 17-year-old CLARE SHANNON (Joey King) is bullied in high school, embarrassed by her manic, hoarder father JONATHAN (Ryan Phillippe) and ignored by her longtime crush. All that changes when her father comes home with an old music box whose inscription promises to grant its owner seven wishes. While Clare is initially skeptical of this magic box, she can’t help but be seduced by its dark powers, and is thrilled as her life radically improves with each wish. Clare finally has the life she’s always wanted and everything seems perfect – until the people closest to her begin dying in violent and elaborate ways after each wish. Clare realizes that she must get rid of the box, but finds herself unable and unwilling to part with her new-and-improved life – leading her down a dark and dangerous path.

WISH UPON stars Joey King, Ryan Phillippe, Ki Hong Lee, Mitchell Slaggert, Shannon Purser, Sydney Park, Kevin Hanchard, Sherilyn Fenn, and was written by Barbara Marshall.
