He has had incredible experiences in some of the most haunted locations in the world. As a friend to Arrow in the Head, we’ve shared some very exciting experiences with Nick including a couple of wild and spooky moments that we’ve managed to capture on camera. Thus, we’ve decided to work with the television host and producer extraordinaire so he can share his knowledge and insight on all things that go bump in the night. With this bi-monthly column, we plan to delve into everything from urban legends to ghostly apparitions, to his take on some of the coolest genre flicks ever. This is Nick Groff Investigates...!

One thing that has been noticeable for awhile is that we’ve been seeing quite a few great horror films as of late. This past year alone we’ve had A QUIET PLACE, HEREDITARY, SUSPIRIA, HALLOWEEN, MANDY, CAM, GHOST STORIES, ANNA AND THE APOCALYPSE and a number of other cool features meant to send a chill or two. That said, one subject that has been quite popular for awhile now is the paranormal. We’ve had THE CONJURING universe, the INSIDIOUS films as well as a few other supernatural terrors to get fans spooked.

With ghosts, spirits and demons haunting movie theatres, television has also found that the paranormal is a very popular subject to cover. This includes scary fictional series like the exceptional The Haunting of Hill House, as well as a number of ghost hunting stories that find real people lurking in the depth for something unexplainable. Nick Groff is no stranger to this of course, and frankly I’ve found that his own series, Paranormal Lockdown with Katrina Weidman, is the most compelling - at least to this viewer. That said, it looks like the new year will be bringing several more shows that focus on real life hauntings.

So what about the future of paranormal and its place in the world of entertainment? I recently had a discussion with Mr. Groff, which lead to a few questions that I had on this very subject. This includes his thoughts on what 2019 will bring to paranormal and ghostly journeys into the unknown. He also opened up about what the influx of new shows may mean to fans of this type of television program.  Here is what Nick had to say about what we can expect this coming year as ghostly images and demonic forces may be a whole lot easier to find when you click on the television.

2019 holds a new journey to explore. Life is about experiencing and growing as time moves forward. What’s interesting is the influx of new paranormal content being produced for cable television and streaming platforms. Within the last three months I’ve heard of about thirty new reality and scripted paranormal shows and movies being developed. That is the most I’ve ever heard all at once.

The increase is good, because that means more people are talking about the paranormal. The bad part is the industry will forcefully push for more shows based on the fact that some good ones are working and in doing so will lead to creating some terrible ones. When there is too much of anything it usually never ends well. I can only hope this isn’t the case.

I believe people today are more curious about the afterlife and are tuning into watch. People connect with this sub-genre because it crosses all of our minds at least once in our lives. More conversations are being had between different beliefs and theories. All of these reasons could be attributing to the success of a lot of the paranormal shows and movies out now. The industry could hit a peak being over saturated with paranormal content and could collapse some networks. As long as people keep watching networks will keep producing.

Along this new period in time, I can guarantee there will be mistakes made by companies trying to produce new paranormal content. Worst part is when people who work for these companies don’t really know anything about the paranormal and have to learn quickly off the internet or talking to others being casted. A lot of this personally frustrates me. You don’t see me out trying to run a restaurant chain not knowing anything about running a restaurant. If I wanted to, I would research and learn the restaurant business for years before even trying to dive into it. Rushing head first into something too fast will always have consequences and the same goes for the paranormal. Especially when trying to air projects on mainstream outlets.

With that said I’m excited for the future of new discoveries to be made in the unknown. I don’t think we’ve hit the tipping point just yet. As long as humans have existed we have been intrigued to learn more about what happens after we die. I know I’m still pushing myself to experience more in life as long as my journey keeps allowing me to explore this world until my time is up here.

Here is to an interesting 2019 and everything that awaits us. Keep thinking outside the box and pushing the envelope of exploration. Wishing you all the best on your quest.

From Nick Groff, myself and all of us here at Arrow in the Head! We hope you all have a Happy New Year! Bring on 2019!
