Pacific Rim anime series coming to Netflix

Pacific Rim Guillermo del Toro

The live action feature films PACIFIC RIM and its sequel PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING have earned a combined total of over $700 million at the global box office, but UPRISING made substantially less than its predecessor, and it was already tough to get a follow-up to that film off the ground. So while it remains to be seen if there will be a third live action film, it seems like it would be a better idea for the franchise to go into the realm of animation - and that's exactly what's happening.

Netflix has announced that a Pacific Rim anime series is part of their endeavor to expand its production of original content in Asia.

The series will follow

two siblings – an idealistic teenage boy and his naïve younger sister – who are forced to pilot an abandoned Jaeger across a hostile landscape in a desperate attempt to find their missing parents.

Legendary Entertainment is producing the series, with Greg Johnson and Craig Kyle, who have both worked on several animation projects for Marvel (and Kyle also co-wrote THOR: RAGNAROK), sharing showrunner duties.

I enjoyed both PACIFIC RIM movies to a degree, and look forward to seeing the franchise continue through this anime.
