Penelope Cruz set to play opposite Pitt, Bardem & Fassbender in The Counselor

As you might expect from a Cormac McCarthy script, THE COUNSELOR is roping in the best talent in town…

THR has it that Oscar winner Penelope Cruz (pictured) is in talks to join her Oscar winning beau Javier Bardem in THE COUNSELOR, the gritty-crime thriller being directed by Ridley Scott. As you may recall, Brad Pitt and Michael Fassbender are also attached to the film, oft-described as NO COUNTRY on steroids. No offer has been made to Cruz yet, but one is expected, which would allow her to play Fassbender’s love interest in the film. Remember, Angelina Jolie was offered the same role a few weeks back, but her MALEFICENT schedule may prohibit her involvement.

Set the contemporary Southwest, The protagonist in The Counselor is a respected lawyer (Fassbender) who thinks he can dip a toe in to the drug business without getting sucked down. It is a bad decision and he tries his best to survive it and get out of a desperate situation.

So, it’s either Cruz or Jolie, two Oscar winners, likely for the role. Can’t do wrong either way in my eyes, again, it just speaks to how good the script is and who’s directing it. If you have a preference, who would it be: Cruz or Jolie?
