Last year, we heard that a reboot of the 1988 film PUMPKINHEAD would be going into production sometime in 2017. The plan doesn't seem to have panned out, but the titular monster from that film will soon be returning – it won't be stalking the screen, but it will live again in the pages of a comic book.

Dynamite Comics has announced that they will be publishing a Pumpkinhead series written by Cullen Bunn. The story Bunn has come up with wasn't revealed, but the writer did have this to say about the project and the original PUMPKINHEAD:

I watched Pumpkinhead on opening night in a little two-screen movie theater outside Berkeley Mall in Goldsboro, North Carolina. To say it helped cement my love of horror (and, in particular, ‘rural horror’, which I write a lot of these days) would be an understatement. I can recite the poem from memory. I even play the soundtrack while writing my own stories. The pacing, the eeriness of the setting, the interplay of weird light and shadow. These are all elements I hope to capture in the comic. As a longtime fan of horror, I hold this movie in high regard, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to be contributing to the backwoods mythos of Haggis and Bunt Wallace and the Demon of Vengeance his own self."

Dynamite also unveiled Pumpkinhead cover art by Kelley Jones, which can be seen below.

As I said when talking about the cinematic reboot, I believe Pumpkinhead is a monster that has a lot of potential. While I still hope to see "the Demon of Vengeance" in another movie soon, I'm glad new stories are going to be told about it in some format. There's a lot more that can be done with Pumpkinhead.
