Showtime’s Halo series just scored its director

Looks like that HALO series over at Showtime just took a big step forward. Today we got a press release letting us know that Otto Bathurst (BLACK MIRROR, ROBIN HOOD, PEAKY BLINDERS) is set to executive produce and direct multiple episodes of the highly anticipated live-action Showtime series, based on the famous Xbox franchise. Kyle Killen (AWAKE) will be serving as executive producer, writer, and showrunner.

Here's a rundown on the show if you're somehow not familiar:

In its adaptation for SHOWTIME, HALO will take place in the universe that first came to be in 2001, dramatizing an epic 26th-century conflict between humanity and an alien threat known as the Covenant. HALO will weave deeply drawn personal stories with action, adventure and a richly imagined vision of the future.

HALO will be executive produced by Killen and Scott Pennington for Chapter Eleven, Bathurst and Toby Leslie for One Big Picture and Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank for Amblin Television in partnership with 343 Industries. The series will be distributed globally by CBS Studios International. Showtime produces in partnership with 343 Industries, along with Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television.

I'm excited enough for this new series if only for the fact that I used to play the absolute shit out of the Slayer mode back in the day. I never really got into the games themselves, but I'd watch my buddies play as I dug the hell out of the story and asked them to call me into the room for the cut-scenes. HALO has an initial nine-episode order and will begin production later this year. Are you excited to finally see HALO on the screen? Let us know below.
