Shudder announces Creepshow series story titles, writers, directors

Creepshow 2

Production is officially underway on Creepshow, the Shudder series based on the George A. Romero / Stephen King anthology films CREEPSHOW and CREEPSHOW 2, and to mark the beginning of filming the streaming service has officially announced the titles of a handful of the stories that will be featured, along with their writers and the names of some of the directors who will be working on episodes. This confirms a couple things we already knew, oddly leaves off some information we know, and sheds a bit more light on this continuation of a classic franchise.

The announced stories are:

“Silvery Waters of Lake Champlain” by Joe Hill

“House of the Head” by Josh Malerman

“The Companion” by Joe R. Lansdale

“The Man in the Suitcase” by Christopher Buehlman

“All Hallows Eve” by Bruce Jones

“Night of the Paw” by John Esposito

“Bad Wolf Down” by Rob Schrab

The announcement also mentions that Creepshow "will feature an adaptation of a Stephen King story" but doesn't name the story, even though we heard last month that executive producer Greg Nicotero will be directing an adaptation of King's story Survivor Type for the show.

Other directors will include Rob Schrab, Roxanne Benjamin, David Bruckner, and the original CREEPSHOW's composer John Harrison, who will be directing a story he co-wrote with Nicotero.

A major revelation here is that episodes of Creepshow will feature more than one story, like the films the show is inspired by. The first season of Creepshow is only going to consist of six episodes, but we already know of nine stories. I'm kind of surprised by this news, but I like it.

Nicotero had this to say about the project:

Having the opportunity to embrace the spirit of Creepshow and expand on what George and Steve created is, without a doubt, a lifelong dream come true. Having grown up in Pittsburgh, Creepshow lives in a special place for me. I had the good fortune to visit the set as a teenager. I was able to look behind the curtain of filmmaking, and it changed me forever. I’m honored to continue telling the stories in the ‘comic book come to life’ world that fans fell in love with. This fall we will be ‘opening the coffin’ and unleashing upon the world our demented and ghastly stories, crafted by the best in business."

Shudder GM Craig Engler adds:

We’re thrilled to have Greg Nicotero on board to transform Creepshow into a series, featuring stories by giants in the horror field like Stephen King and Joe Hill, as well as a fantastic lineup of writers, directors and special effects wizards. This a dream series for fans of the original movies and for anyone who wants to experience ‘the most fun you can have being scared.’"

Creepshow is being produced by the Cartel, Monster Agency Productions, Taurus Entertainment, and Striker Entertainment. Serving as executive producers are the Cartel's Stan Spry, Jeff Holland, and Eric Woods; Monster Agency's Nicotero and Brian Witten; Taurus Entertainment's Robert Dudelson, James Dudelson, and Jordan Kizwani; and Striker's Russell Binder. Striker's Marc Mostman is co-executive producer.

Nicotero's company KNB will be handling the creature and make-up effects.

More stories and directors will be announced later in the year. Shudder will be making casting announcements later as well.
