Production is now underway on AMERICAN PSYCHO director Mary Harron's Manson Family movie CHARLIE SAYS, but the casting announcements don't stop when the cameras start rolling. Over recent weeks, Harron has been casting actors to play the real people who made up in the infamous Manson Family – there's Chace Crawford as Tex Watson, Hannah Murray as Leslie Van Houten, Marianne Rendon as Susan Atkins, Suki Waterhouse as Mary Brunner, and former Doctor Who Matt Smith as Charles Manson himself.

Joining that bunch is newly announced cast member Sosie Bacon, who co-stars in the HBO series Here and Now and is the daughter of Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick. Bacon will be taking on the role of Patricia Krenwinkel. "Dubbed 'Katie' by Manson and considered his most unwavering follower and right-hand girl, Krenwinkel is now the longest-incarcerated female inmate in the California penal system."

Written by AMERICAN PSYCHO screenwriter Guinevere Turner, CHARLIE SAYS is based on the books The Family by Ed Sanders and The Long Prison Journey of Leslie van Houten: Life Beyond the Cult by Karlene Faith. The story follows

grad student Karlene Faith as she works with three brainwashed young women who were part of the Manson family — Leslie Van Houten, Patricia Krenwinkel and Susan Atkins. The story will be told via a series of flashbacks after the three women are incarcerated in a special security unit at the California Institute for Women.

The Walking Dead alum Merritt Wever is playing Faith. Also in the cast are Odessa Young, Carla Gugino, Suki Waterhouse, and Kayli Carter.

In general, I'm not very interested in seeing more movies about the Manson Family story, but I'll be making an exception for CHARLIE SAYS, as I'm intrigued by the approach it's taking and by its cast.
