Steven Soderbergh’s Side Effects gets funding from Endgame Entertainment

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

By my calculations, Soderbergh was only two days late…

Last week we told you that Stevie’s new psychopharmacology thriller SIDE EFFECTS had lost funding from Annapurna Pictures. Ever so confident, Steven expressed optimism by saying he expected to find a new investor before the 2012 Sundance Film Fest concluded. Well, the bash ended two days ago…and now SIDE EFFECTS has its backer!

Word from THR is Endgame Entertainment has stepped up and forked over the dough necessary to make the edgy thriller. Just yesterday we learned Rooney Mara will be playing the female lead previously eyed by Blake Lively, and a few days prior we heard Catherine Zeta-Jones (below) will be in the film as well. Both Rooney and Catherine might join the likes Channing Tatum and Jude Law…the status of the latter two coming into question once Annapurna cut ties.

As for the story, it centers on a troubled and depressed woman (Mara) who begins taking serious amounts of prescription drugs, when she gets into a relationship with a doctor. Her intake is ostensibly designed to help her deal with the anxiety surrounding the pending release of her husband from prison.

So, take note, SIDE EFFECTS will kick in soon enough. As always, we’ll keep you dosed up as production rolls along.
