Straight Outta Compton's Jason Mitchell may join Kong: Skull Island

While Legendary Pictures and Universal enjoy the success of their NWA biopic STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON, which has earned more than $100 million at the box office since its August 14th release, it's looking like one of their upcoming tentpole projects may be something of a STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON reunion.

Just a few weeks after Corey Hawkins, who played Dr. Dre in COMPTON, was cast in KONG: SKULL ISLAND, his COMPTON co-star Jason Mitchell (who played Eazy E) has entered negotiations to join the giant creature feature in the role of a pilot.

Very little is known about this new KING KONG story, just that it involves sequences set in 1970s Detroit. Presumably a trip to the titular island and a confrontation with King Kong are also in order.

If Mitchell locks down the role, he'll be joining a cast that includes Brie Larson (pictured below), Tom Hiddleston, and Toby Kebbell, in addition to Hawkins. If talks go well, Samuel L. Jackson and Tom Wilkinson may also be in there.

Directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts from a screenplay by Max Borenstein, John Gatins, Dan Gilroy, and Derek Connolly, KONG: SKULL ISLAND is set to reach theatres on March 10, 2017.
