Subversive dark zombie comedy graphic novel Daybreak picked up by Netflix

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

It was just earlier today that we let you guys know that Netflix has stepped in to save Joe Hill's LOCKE & KEY series, and now we have word that the streaming giant has snagged up yet another popular comic series. This time, the new comic series is Brian Ralph’s subversive dark zombie comedy graphic novel DAYBREAK.

The popular comic series has just been given a 10-episode series order by the powers that be over at Netflix with Aron Eli Coleite (STAR TREK: DISCOVERY) and Brad Peyton (RAMPAGE) credited as co-creators. It follows:

17-year-old high school outcast Josh searching for his missing girlfriend Sam in post-apocalyptic Glendale, California. Joined by a ragtag group of misfits including a pyromaniac 12-year-old Angelica and Josh’s former high school bully Wesley, now turned pacifist samurai, Josh tries to stay alive amongst the horde of Mad Max-style gangs (evil jocks, cheerleaders turned Amazon warriors), zombie-like creatures called Ghoulies, and everything else this brave new world throws at him.

Peyton is set to executive produce and direct the pilot episode. Meanwhile, Coleite executive producing as well, along with serving as the series' showrunner. I haven't read this comic series myself so I can't say for sure if this is news that we should all drop everything we're doing and get excited about. That said, I'll be making a note here in my handy-dandy notebook to check out the comic series as soon as I can to see what's what.

Have you read this series? What did you think? Let us know below!
