SyFy developing a new Beowulf series

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

Syfy has put in development a potential news series based on the Old English classic epic poem "Beowulf", according to Deadline who reports that this new series will further examine the hero’s rise to power and his feud with the monster Grendel.

The project, produced by Omni, is being written by Matt Greenberg (1408) who will executive produce with Brian Hamilton, Michael Chechik, Andrew Cosby and Paulo de Oliveira. Omni and Universal Cable Prods. serve as co-distributors.

Beowulf, considered one of the most important works of Anglo-Saxon literature, had a big-screen adaptation with Robert Zemeckis’ 2007 motion capture film and, earlier, was given a sci-fi reimagining with the 1999 Christopher Lambert-starrer BEOWULF.

This could be an interesting take on the classic tale of good vs. evil, so we'll be keeping a close eye on this one.
