Takashi Miike to do As God Says in adaptation of blood-spattered comic

Last Updated on July 22, 2021

Takashi Miike fans are legion and I unabashedly count myself as one of the countless number of admirers of his works, so anytime I hear of a new Miike film headed our way I get pretty damn excited. Now Variety is reporting that Miike is set to direct a BATTLE ROYALE-esque thriller that is sure to turn some heads right before ripping them off in a gory manner.

Miike has been tapped to helm the film AS GOD SAYS, based on a popular comic about…

…teenagers forced to play a deadly game by unknown forces.

So basically THE HUNGER GAMES and BATTLE ROYALE but with a nasty twist infused with Miike's signature gore. I'm most definitely in!

The flick will be produced by Toho, with principal photography set to start in June and the Japan release, also by Toho, scheduled for the fall of 2014.

Written by Muneyuki Kanshiro and drawn by Akeji Fujimura, AS GOD SAYS was serialized in Kodansha Comic Magazine from March 2011 to November 2012 and has sold 1.5 million copies in paperback editions.

Miike gives us even more reason to be excited as he says of the film…

“They live, some heads roll, they run, blood sprays, they cry, they laugh and then they die – in other words, a fun movie.”

Sounds like a gory good time to me!
