The Bleeding Joystick (September 6, 2012)

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

The Bleeding Joystick is a bi-weekly column that rounds up the more stand-out GENRE VIDEO GAME news that is out there!

Slightly Brighter Souls

If you haven’t been brave enough to play Dark Souls yet, then you’re not the only one. The game is notoriously difficult, although it’s incredibly badass at the same time. You’re an Undead warrior taking on swarms of bad guys and it’s even more awesome than it sounds. It’s just super, super difficult. Only for the toughest gamers, really.

The fact that this game is tough isn’t exactly news, but the fact that the director of the game is considering adding an easier difficulty sure is. The man’s name is Hidetaka Miyazaki, and although he used to stand by the difficulty, he wants people to be able to experience how awesome the game is. In fact, he stated that  “This fact is really sad to me and I am thinking about whether I should prepare another difficulty that everyone can complete or carefully send all gamers the messages behind our difficult games.”

He goes on to say that he doesn’t want to turn anyone off, but wants people to enjoy the “interesting and worthwhile” experience the game has to offer. Let’s see what happens in the future- the game was just released on PC in late August.

Resident Evil 6: 2 Demos!

Because this column should be practically friggin’ funded by Capcom, I have to mention some Resident Evil 6 news, and it’s meaty. The game had a demo show up a few months ago (with Dragon’s Dogma), but Capcom just announced that there’s going to be an even tastier demo on the way.

This one lets you try out all three main characters- Leon (checking out Ivy University), Jake (all we know is that you’re fighting the nasty J’avo in all forms, and Chris (team up with partner Pierce to fight on the streets of Edonia) and it’s coming September 18th. As a bonus, PS3 owners can download the original demo before this one comes out.. starting today!

Surfing the Riptide

The next installment of the Dead Island games has finally been given a release window. The new game, called Dead Island Riptide is a sequel to the first game release in September of 2011. The first game was a bit wonky, but worth playing, and more importantly, sold 3 million copies.

This one promises new weather effects and upgrades, and we know it too takes place on an island (obviously Dead Peninsula would have been a stupid title). We don’t know much about it yet, but we know it’s coming to the 360, PS3 and PC in early 2013.

Dementium to be let loose on PC

In a wonderful bit a news, Memetic games and Digital Tribe Games just announced that they’re going to be creating a sequel to the DS survival horror game Dementium, cleverly named Dementium II. They involve your desperate attempt to escape a haunted sanitarium with your sanity intact. These games were super, super awesome on the DS and I reviewed them both (you can read about that here and here). In the meantime, feel free to check out the game’s official website, and watch the teaser below.

Free Horror!

Finally, I’d like to draw your attention to some news about a game that people are talking about that happens to be, well, totally free! If you’ve ever heard about the Slender Man (just Google him), you know that the character is pretty popular these days and is becoming a bit of an internet icon.

If you’d like to know what it’s like to get creeped the f*ck out, download this bad boy for free. Then, wait til it’s dark, turn off all the lights, get yourself some badass headphones and crank up the sound. Then you’re stuck alone in the woods, trying to collect pieces of a lost notebook. There are no weapons. I won’t say any more about it, but know you’re in for a frightful experience.

You can download the game for PC and Mac from the official website of Parsec Productions:

Until next time, keep the change, you filthy animals!
