The Car 2 coming very soon!

Elliot Silverstein's PG-rated 1977 killer car flick, THE CAR is one of the great underappreciated films in our beloved genre. At least the design of the car is. Guillermo del Toro even lists the film as one of his personal favorites. And today not only do we have word that, yes, there is, in fact, a sequel to THE CAR in the works, but the film is complete and will be driving it's possessed ass onto DVD via Universal 1440 Entertainment this January.

The sequel is officially called THE CAR: ROAD TO REVENGE (pre-order HERE) and is being described as a "stylized" sequel to the original 1977 flick. G.J. Echternkamp (DEATH RACE 2050) directs the film and Ronny Cox (ROBOCOP) reprises his role as Luke from the original. While it kinda sucks that the DVD will include approximately ZERO special features, the release will be the UNRATED CUT so that's something, right? Anyways, you can check out the wacky synopsis below, along with the DVD cover art and trailer. After looking through all of that, let us know what you think!

Wacky Synopsis:

In a dilapidated cyberpunk city plagued by crime and corruption, an unscrupulous District Attorney is savagely murdered and tossed out of a building onto his brand new car. Mysteriously, the District Attorney and his car come back to life as a single being with a thirst for vengeance. The eerie driverless car embarks on a vicious rampage exacting revenge on the criminals who murdered him. The Car: Road to Revenge is the stylized sequel to the unconventional horror cult classic The Car (1977), and features an homage to the original with the return of Ronny Cox as the Mechanic.

G.J. Echternkamp (DEATH RACE 2050) directs from a screenplay he co-wrote along with Michael Tabb and Matt Yamashita. Grant Bowler, Kathleen Munroe, Martin Hancock, Micah Balfour, Burt Grinstead, Nina Bergman, Jamie Bamber, and Cox star. Jeffery Beach and Phillip Roth produce.

THE CAR: ROAD TO REVENGE will be driving it's possessed ass onto DVD via Universal 1440 Entertainment on January 8, 2019.
