The Lair: Neil Marshall creature feature now filming, cast announced

Last Updated on August 10, 2021

Nineteen years after the release of his werewolf film Dog Soldiers (buy it HERE), director Neil Marshall is now in production on The Lair, a creature feature that's being described as Marshall's return to "full-blooded horror and intense genre action". Filming in Hungary, The Lair stars Jonathan Howard (Thor: The Dark World), Charlotte Kirk (The Reckoning), Jamie Bamber (Battlestar Galactica), Leon Ockenden (Coronation Street), Mark Strepan (New Blood), Hadi Khanjanpour (No Hard Feelings), Harry Taurasi (Young Dracula), and newcomers Kibong Tanji and Troy Alexander.

A behind-the-scenes image has been released online that shows Marshall directing an unfortunate soldier character. That image can be seen below.

The Lair follows

Sgt. Tom Hook as he is tasked with leading a unit to find Lt. Kate Sinclair after the Royal Air Force fighter pilot was shot down in Afghanistan. Pursued by insurgents, Sinclair has sought shelter in an abandoned bunker where she unwittingly releases the Ravagers – a half human-half alien man-made biological weapon. Hook and his team, accompanied by a handful of British SAS troops, must save Sinclair from insurgents and the Ravagers before they overrun the area and threaten the entire world.

The film is being produced by Daniel-Konrad Cooper of Rather Good Films Ltd. Marshall is executive producing alongside Kirk, Joe Simpson, Phil Rymer, Simon Williams, and Samantha Allwinton. Ingenious Media and Ashland Hill Media Finance are funding the feature, while co-producers Jonathan Halperyn and Daniel Kresmery of Hero Squared are providing production services in Hungary.

Marshall said,

It’s great to be back in the thick of the action with such a stellar cast and crew, and I’m thrilled to be shooting in Budapest again. This movie really captures the mood and intensity of my early work, not to mention the blood and guts. I think horror and action fans are going to get a real kick out of The Lair."

Dog Soldiers is one of my favorite werewolf movies, and it's so cool that it guaranteed I'll watch anything Marshall ever makes. I look forward to checking out The Lair.
