Thor: Ragnarok's Craig Kyle is developing an adaptation of Ga-Rei

Ga-Rei: Zero

During an appearance at Tokyo's Japan Content Showcase, THOR: RAGNAROK co-writer Craig Kyle announced that he is developing a live action television series based on Hajime Segawa's supernatural action manga GA-REI, which has previously served as the inspiration for the anime series Ga-Rei: Zero.

Ga-Rei: Zero told the following story:

In Japan, there exists a government agency known as the Supernatural Disaster Countermeasures Division (SDCD), whose duty is to protect the citizens from creatures unseen. They are able to dispatch these monsters swiftly and without alerting the general public. But currently, they face a different challenge: the betrayal of one of their own.

A prequel to the manga, the anime centered on two young girls, Kagura and Yomi, who work for the SDCD as highly skilled exorcists. The story of Kagura and Yomi continues in the manga, which also has high school student Kensuke Nimura, who has the ability to see spirits, in the mix.

GA-REI is described as being "the story of two young girls destined to define the fate of the living and the dead." Kyle is currently working on the pilot episode of his adaptation and is putting together a character bible.

Kyle had this to say about the property:

What it has more than anything is wonderful, wonderful characters. That's the one component, above all else, that will guarantee a success if handled properly by those you entrust with those characters and the IP. Everyone who wants the next Game of Thrones, I will make the bold statement that Ga-Rei has that potential."

THOR: RAGNAROK is just the latest Marvel-related credit Kyle has earned. He has been working with the company for over a decade, writing comic books and scripts for animated Marvel TV shows and features, and also serving as a producer on animated projects and the live action THOR films.

I haven't read the GA-REI manga or seen any of the anime, but the concept sounds intriguing. Kyle certainly seems to have been impressed by it.
