Trailer invites you to meet The Blackcoat's Daughter

The Blackcoat's Daughter Kiernan Shipka Osgood Perkins

Osgood Perkins' feature directorial debut THE BLACKCOAT'S DAUGHTER is a film we have been keeping an eye on for a long time, watching its progress as it underwent a title change (it was originally called FEBRUARY), waiting for its release for a long enough period of time that Perkins' second directorial effort, I AM THE PRETTY THING THAT LIVES IN THE HOUSE, was even assembled and released into the world ahead of it.

We don't have much longer to wait. THE BLACKCOAT'S DAUGHTER will be available for viewing through DirecTV as of February 16th (that FEBRUARY title was fitting after all), with a limited theatrical release to follow on March 31st.

The story of THE BLACKCOAT'S DAUGHTER centers on

Kat and Rose, two girls who are left alone at their prep school Bramford over winter break when their parents mysteriously fail to pick them up. While the girls experience increasingly strange and creepy occurrences at the isolated school, we cross cut to another story — that of Joan, a troubled young woman on the road, who, for unknown reasons, is determined to get to Bramford as fast as she can. As Joan gets closer to the school, Kat becomes plagued by progressively intense and horrifying visions, with Rose doing her best to help her new friend as she slips further and further into the grasp of an unseen evil force.

Kiernan Shipka, Lucy Boynton, James Remar, Lauren Holly, and Emma Roberts star.

In anticipation of the film's long-awaited release, a trailer has been released online, and judging by this couple minutes of footage THE BLACKCOAT'S DAUGHTER looks like it will make for an intriguing, intense, creepy viewing experience. There are a couple things reminiscent of THE EXORCIST in there, but thankfully those appear to go by quickly so the film can move on to doing its own thing.

We'll find out exactly what THE BLACKCOAT'S DAUGHTER is like in just a couple weeks.

UPDATE: We were asked to take down the trailer. Another should be available soon.
