Director Mike Flanagan's steady ascension to "modern master of horror" status continues with the Stephen King adaptation GERALD'S GAME, which is set to be released through the Netflix streaming service on September 29th.

Starring Carla Gugino, Bruce Greenwood, Henry Thomas, Carel Struycken, and Kate Siegel, GERALD'S GAME has the following synopsis:

When a harmless sex game between a married couple in a remote retreat suddenly becomes a harrowing fight for survival, wife Jessie must confront long-buried demons within her own mind – and possibly lurking in the shadows of her seemingly empty house. Among those she confronts are ghosts from her past and a vicious dog.

Flanagan wrote the screenplay with his OCULUS / BEFORE I WAKE / OUIJA: ORIGIN OF EVIL co-writer Jeff Howard.

With the release just over three weeks away, Netflix has put out a trailer that gives a glimpse of how the idea of a woman being stuck handcuffed to a bed can sustain a feature length film.

I'm looking forward to this one, and trust this creative team to deliver a solid, entertaining film. King himself called it "Horrifying, hypnotic, terrific."
