True Norwegian black metal lives in Lords of Chaos poster

Last Updated on July 21, 2021

I don't know if you ever read Michael Moynihan and Didrik Søderlind's book LORDS OF CHAOS, but if you haven't and you're a fan of true Norwegian black metal, then it is a must-own. And if you plan on reading the book, which is based on the true story surrounding a series of crimes that occurred in Oslo, Norway in the early 1990s surrounding the black metal bands Mayhem and Burzum, you should get to it quick as there's a movie about the tale coming our way soon – and today we have the new poster and release information!

The movie is also called LORDS OF CHAOS and it's from former Bathory's drummer turned film director Jonas Åkerlund. You can check out the poster below and then make sure to mark your calendars as the movie will be hitting theaters and On Demand via Gunpowder & Sky this February.

Åkerlund directs from a screenplay he co-wrote along with Dennis Magnusson, which follows:

A teenager's quest to launch Norwegian Black Metal in Oslo in the 1980s results in a very violent outcome. Lords of Chaos tells the true story of True Norwegian Black Metal and its most notorious practitioners – a group of young men with a flair for publicity, church-burning and murder: MAYHEM.

The movie sports one hell of a cast including Rory Culkin (SCREAM 4), Emory Cohen (THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES), Sky Ferreira (Eli Roth's THE GREEN INFERNO), Jack Kilmer (Val Kilmer's son), and Valter Skarsgård (Stellan Skarsgard's son and Pennywise himself Bill Skarsgard's brother). VICE, 20th Century Fox, Scott Free Productions, and Insurgent Media are the studios behind the film, and once again, Gunpowder & Sky will release LORDS OF CHAOS in theaters on February 8th and On Demand beginning February 22nd.
