Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning gets new still and Japanese poster

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

2012 is shaping up to be a banner year for Jean-Claude Van Damme. Between 6 BULLETS, EXPENDABLES 2, and UNIVERSAL SOLDIER: DAY OF RECKONING, the “Muscle From Brussels” seems to be staging a major comeback among action fans. Based on the trailers and promo material we’ve been seeing, DAY OF RECKONING looks to be the most ambitious of the trio. A new still and Japanese poster (below) seem to confirm these assumptions.

As far as news commentary goes, let me say Scott Adkins, who happens to be kicking a dude’s ass in the still below, must feel like he was born about a decade too late. If this was the 80s, Cannon films would have him toplining RAMBO-knockoffs and Ninja revenge flicks. He’s making quite a name for himself now, but I’d like to see him pushed harder into the mainstream (his role in EXPENDABLES 2 not withstanding). He’ll be showing up in ZERO DARK THIRTY, so maybe that, along with this sequel, will help him breakout into bigger movies.

As for the poster, it looks pretty typical for a Japanese 1-sheet. I’m not usually a fan of the floating heads style, but the silhouette backdrop makes those mugs work. Honestly, if it had these three guys sitting in a French bistro drinking coffee I would still be pretty pumped about UNIVERSAL SOLDIER: DAY OF RECKONING. The reuniting of Dolph and Van Damme is enough to guarantee a watch from me, but throw some Adkins in there and you got yourself and action movie stew, baby.

Don’t believe me? Check out the images below for yourself and get pumped for the return of the UniSol.
