VFX work begins on Sin City: A Dame to Kill For

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

We still have a hell of a long time to wait for the Frank Miller/Robert Rodriguez-directed SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR to hit theaters, but at least there's been some movement on the film in the form of extensive visual effects work. According to THR, Prime Focus World will be tackling all of the VFX work which includes over 2,000 shots ranging from matte paintings to 3D environments, particle dynamics to digitally created rain and snow. This marks the largest amount of shots handled so far for any project by the company. Sounds like they've got plenty of work to keep them busy!

PFW CEO Namit Malhotra told the site, "Robert Rodriguez does not like to repeat himself so he is raising the bar as the benchmark is already set [with 2005's Sin City]. The film's visual landscape is going to be much more dynamic. It is a very distinctive style and the makers of the franchise are clearly looking to set new standards."

SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR weaves together two of Frank Miller's classic stories with new tales in which the town's most hard boiled citizens cross paths with some of its more repulsive inhabitants. Dwight is hunted down by the only woman he ever loved, Ava Lord, and then watches his life go straight to hell. Chronologically, this story takes place prior to "The Big Fat Kill" (featured in the film Frank Miller's Sin City) and explains how Dwight came to have a dramatically different face.

The film stars Josh Brolin, Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Bruce Willis, Rosario Dawson, Jaime King, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Eva Green, Dennis Haysbert, Christopher Meloni, Jeremy Piven, Jamie Chung, Ray Liotta, Juno Temple, Julia Garner and Stacy Keach.

Look for SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR in theaters on August 22nd, 2014.
