Viola Davis lands roles in Ender’s Game & supernatural thriller Beautiful Creatures

From one star of THE HELP to another…

After relaying the good fortunes of Oscar nominee Octavia Spencer, her costar Viola Davis (pictured) – also nominated for an Oscar this year – has just scored two high-profile roles in movies that definitely pertain to our maddening quarters here at AITH. Check it out…

According to Variety, Davis has won a key role in the sci-fi thriller ENDER’S GAME, playing a military psychologist who oversees the emotional welfare of young trainees. She also helps design the games that test their skills and resilience. As you know, ENDER’S GAME is being directed by Gavin Hood, and also stars Asa Butterfield, Hailee Steinfeld, Harrison Ford, Brendan Meyer, Aramis Knight, Moises Arias, Jimmy “Jax” Pinchak, Suraj Parthasarathy, Conor Carroll and Khylin Rhambo.

But that’s not all for the lovely Mrs. Davis. She also joined the cast of a new supernatural thriller called BEAUTIFUL CREATURES, being written and directed by Richard LaGravenese. The film, which follows two teens who must confront a curse that has haunted the girl’s family for generations, is being adapted by LaGravenese from the Margaret Stohl-Kami Garcia novel. Davis will play a librarian and friend of the teenage boy’s deceased mother who loves him like a son and will do whatever she can to protect him.

Much like Octavia Spencer, it’s good to see Viola Davis get more recognition. She turned heads a few years ago with DOUBT, but honestly, this chick has also been kicking around since 1996, amassing nearly 60 screen credits since then. She’s one of the few who can do both TV and film, and do them well. I can’t wait to see what she brings to both ENDER’S GAME and BEAUTIFUL CREATURES.
