John Carpenter and Steve Niles talk F.E.A.R. 3!

About two months ago came the news that horror icons John Carpenter and Steve Niles were going to be added to the creative team of F.E.A.R. 3, the upcoming first person shooter from Warner Bros. Interactive. At long last we have some kind of follow-up on that bit of awesomeness, and it comes from the E3 Expo in Los Angeles.

IGN had an opportunity to sit down with Carpenter and Niles, and learned spoke to them about their involvement in the game, as well as other juicy topics.

Carpenter on his F.E.A.R. gig: “I’m a game player and a game lover. I got hooked into this by [Steve Niles]. We consult mainly on the story and dialogue… It’s all about gameplay. That’s the secret.”

Niles on the process: “We were told from the beginning to just focus on the story. We actually use Final Draft [a popular screenwriting program], so it was a very similar process for us.”

Moving on to other subjects, Carpenter had some choice things to say about the current 3D trend in cinema: “I was around for the first wave of 3D in the Fifties. I think it’s bull****. It’s a way to take more of your money.”

Amen, good sir.

For the entire interview (which includes Carpenter’s thoughts on having one of his own movies turned into a game), head on over HERE. F.E.A.R. 3 comes out later this year.
