John Cusack hunts greedy humans in the Blood Money trailer

Last year, we caught word that Lucky McKee would be directing John Cusack in a thriller called MISFORTUNE, which would feature Cusack hunting down a group of young friends in the wildnerness. That's all I needed to know – McKee's film MAY ensured that I would watch anything the director made after that, and if such a project were to involve the great Cusack as a killer, all the better.

MISFORTUNE has since undergone a title change; it's now BLOOD MONEY (a more evocative but also frequently used title), and its release date is drawing near.

Written by Jared Butler and Lars Norberg, BLOOD MONEY tells the following story:

Sharp, quick-witted businessman Miller (Cusack) left everything behind, including his family, to start a new life after embezzling a client’s money.  All had been going according to plan until he becomes separated from his cash in the middle of the wilderness. Three young friends happen upon the lost fortune, and a desperate and violent Miller will do anything to get his money back.

The three friends Cusack will be hunting are played by Ellar Coltrane, Willa Fitzgerald, and Jacob Artist. At one point, Daniel Zovatto had been attached to one of those roles, but apparently he had to move on from the project for some reason.

BLOOD MONEY will be receiving an On Demand and theatrical release on October 13th, courtesy of Saban Films and Lionsgate. The film's poster can be seen below, along with the trailer, which makes it look like it's going to be a fun ride with some unexpected elements.
