Johnny Depp may star in J.C. Chandor’s crime thriller Triple Frontier

Johnny Depp might be returning to the world of organized crime in a new movie. Variety has learned that the actor is in early talks to star in TRIPLE FRONTIER, an ensemble crime thriller "set in the notorious border zone between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil."

Depp first showed interest in the project back when Kathryn Bigelow was attached to direct, however last summer J.C. Chandor (A MOST VIOLENT YEAR, ALL IS LOST) closed a deal to helm the long-gestating movie, and he'll be directing from a script by ZERO DARK THIRTY writer Mark Boal. Outside of where it will take place, little is known about the film, but it's been reported that there are five main roles. Although there's no word on when production is expected to start, I imagine things will move forward quickly if/when Depp officially signs on, and apparently an offer has also gone out to Tom Hanks. Who would you like to see star alongside the actor in TRIPLE FRONTIER?

Depp has several movies set to open this year, including Kevin Smith's YOGA HOSERS and ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS, and his Whitey Bulger biopic BLACK MASS will be available on Blu-ray and DVD on February 16th.
