Jordan Peele wants to make a live-action Gargoyles film?

Well, this is an interesting rumor. It looks like the guys over at /Film are saying that GET OUT writer-director Jordan Peele is interested in rebooting Disney’s 90’s TV series GARGOYLES. And I guess we can file this under the “so strange it just might be true” category.

Supposedly, the story comes from entertainment industry newsletter The Ankler and writer Richard Rushfield who claims Peele has actually pitched a new take on the animated series to Disney… but instead of giving the movie the fastest greenlight in the history of lights or the color green, Disney is instead just letting the pitch ride.

Richard Rushfield:

How do you turn down Jordan Peele? Well, you can’t. Who wants to be responsible for that decision? So in the absence of a good reason to say no, but prevented by their Big IP box from saying yes, Disney is slow-walking the decision. It’s hoping, it seems, that they’ll run out the clock, he’ll sign other deals elsewhere, and the project will just fade away.

Basically, this Rushfield guy says that Disney is scared to make the move to greenlight the film, but is also scared – considering this is Jordan Peele we’re talking about – to pass on the film, which could end up being a massive hit.

Urgh. Whatever, I say. I just can’t seem to believe that Peele wants to make a live-action GARGOYLES film. I could end up being as wrong as I’ve ever been, but truthfully, I just don’t see this happening. I mean, Peele is older than me, and even I was too old to get into the animated series.

But who knows. Maybe he has a nephew he lost a bet to. I guess we’ll see sooner rather than later as this news is spreading like wildfire (go figure) and Peele I’m sure will eventually come out to dispel this rumor. Or possibly confirm it. We’ll see soon so stay tuned.
