Kathleen Kennedy thinks there will be an Indiana Jones 5

Looks like another Indiana Jones movie is going to be the next big “Will they or won’t they?” we’ll keep talking about until someone definitively makes up their damn mind.

Everyone seems to say the right things when it comes to making a fifth movie in the series, especially with Steven Spielberg claiming it’ll be Harrison Ford or bust, yet we seem no closer to getting another adventure out of Indy to justify all this conversation.

But Kathleen Kennedy, head of Lucasfilm, is optimistic something will come together, pointing to the numerous discussions that have been had and the few story ideas that have been kicked around as proof that Indy is not a dormant series in the least bit.

We’re all trying to figure out when the right time is to step back in. Harrison really wants to do it; Steven really wants to do it. We’ve kicked around a couple of story ideas, but beyond that, I don’t know yet. I think there will be one, we’ll certainly move forward with Indy. But right now, everybody’s just focused on Star Wars.

STAR WARS is sucking up a lot of the oxygen over at Lucasfilm and Disney, and believe me… No one wants another Indiana Jones movie just for the sake of having one. But we’re getting dangerously close to hitting a point in time where everyone is going to have to shit or get off the pot. Ford is no spring chicken anymore, especially given the physicality needed for an Indy flick (stunt doubles can only do so much), and that’s ultimately going to be the biggest factor that dictates if they can make another one happen.

The mind may be willing, but the body may not be game the longer this idea simmers, and then what? Then will we revisit the idea of going younger and recasting to keep the franchise alive? I’d bet good money that’s a conversation that’s going to need to be had sooner rather than later, no matter what is said publicly now.
