Since rumors started leaking that BIRDMAN was being created as a single long take shot, everyone has been wondering just how director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu was going to pull it off. We now know that it is in fact not a single take but is edited in a manner to give the appearance of being one continuous shot.
There have been films in the past edited in this way but few have been as flawless as BIRDMAN. Our Eric Walkuski and JimmyO have said it is a brilliant film, but even they were hard pressed to find the edits in the film. Now we have a new featurette from the folks at Variety that delves into the technology that made it possible.
It is easy to forget just how much work goes into making films and the minute details that had to be addressed for BIRDMAN to work are astounding. If anything, seeing this featurette just makes me more impressed with the film and everyone involved.
