Learn the history of TMNT in the trailer for documentary Turtle Power

Every kid for the last thirty years has grown up with some version of the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES. Whether it was the original comic, the first animated series, the action figures, or the CGI cartoons, the NINJA TURTLES have been a pop culture phenomenon. This August, Michael Bay and director Jonathan Liebesman look to reinvent the mutant crew for another generation.

Whether that is for the better or not, TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES will be accompanied this year by a very intriguing documentary on the history of Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird’s creation. Titled TURTLE POWER: THE DEFINITIVE HISTORY OF THE TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES, the doc explores the entire evolution of the characters from their inception to now. Paramount Pictures has released a new trailer for the doc which you can check out below.

In the spring of 1984, a strange new comic book sat beside cash registers in select shops, too big to fit in the racks, and too weird to ignore. Eastman and Laird’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles presented a completely original breed of super hero. It was too bizarre, too crazy. It broke all the rules and should never have worked. Until it sold out. Again and again and again. For 30 years. Now, peek under the shell and see how this so-called “happy accident” defied every naysayer to become one of the most popular and beloved franchises in the world.

I can only count my fandom back to the first cartoon and beyond, so this predates even me. Like STAR WARS, STAR TREK, and countless other franchises, the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES have a dedicated fanbase that is highlighted in this movie. I am just interested to see where they all came from.

TURTLE POWER debuts on DVD, VOD and Digital HD on August 12, 2014.
