Lindsay Lohan still fighting for more Mean Girls & has written a treatment

The lifespan for the movie MEAN GIRLS have been, to say the least, shocking beyond all human recognition. A surprise hit in 2004, the movie is still beloved by a mainstream audience and even had a 10th anniversary celebration back in 2014 (First World priorities!). You wouldn’t deserve a smack on the face for considering it a modern comedy classic, and with the wave of nostalgia wafting over the globe it wouldn’t be a shock to hear we’re getting a sequel.

However, though it would seem like a no-brainer for the studio to want to push for a 15-years-later angle that reunites the main cast, there’s only one star really pushing for the next MEAN GIRLS installment: Lindsay Lohan. The star recently spoke with CNN and discussed how she is fighting hard for more MEAN-related antics:

I have been trying so hard to do a Mean Girls 2. It is not in my hands. I know that Tina Fey, and Lorne Michaels and all of Paramount [Pictures] are very busy. But I will keep forcing it and pushing it on them until we do it.

She herself already has big plans for the movie, mentioning a few dream additions to the potential cast:

I would love to have Jamie Lee Curtis, Jimmy Fallon in the movie. I have already written a treatment for it. I just need a response. I know Mark Waters, the director; he’d happily come back.

There has since been a made-for-TV sequel to the movie, but it doens't count seeing as how Satan has since clawed all existing prints of the movie back down to his firey depths. Tina Fey has said in the past that she wants to do a musical version of the movie, but other than that there has been no active developments on the sequel front. Back in 2014 Fey even talked about her thought process regarding a sequel and how it went something like this:

No!!! We shouldn’t do that!  Now I look back and I’m like, ‘Why?’ But now, no — it’s too late now.

I admire Lohan’s conviction and willingness to make a sequel to a movie that seems to get more popular with age. I mean, it’s not like she’s trying to get a sequel made for THE PARENT TRAP. MEAN GIRLS is actually quite good, thanks in large part to Fey’s hilarious, compassionate script. That being said I think Fey is right. It seems too much time has passed, especially considering she, Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried and Lizzy Caplan have all gone on to bigger and better things. Who knows, though, maybe a sequel could work if they…no, no that's not it. Or maybe if…nah, that sucks too. Yeah, let's just move on.
